Einherjer Unveils "Varden Brenne” Single off New Album Norrøn
Norwegian Viking metallers Einherjer have unveiled "Varden Brenne”, the first single off the band’s forthcoming new album entitled Norrøn, which will see its release September 9th. "Varden Brenne” can be heard at Indie Recordings' official Facebook page.
Recorded at Studio Borealis, Norrøn production was handled by Einherjer's founding member Frode Glesnes with mixing duties covered by Matt Hyde [Slayer, Moster Magnet]. The new album comes eight years after the band's fourth studio album, Blot, released in November 2003.
Vocalist and guitarist Frode Glesnes commented on “Varden Brenne":
“[It is] an old-school viking metal song, greatly inspired by our own efforts from the mid-'90s. I don't like to limit the reader's reflection on our lyrics, but since it's in Norwegian, I'll bend my rules a bit. 'Varden Brenne' is about the lack of balance, the carelessness and the indifference we see in the world today. We're only humans, but it's too bad we're too narrow-minded to understand that we are rushing to our graves."
The cover art, painted by Renathe H. Bryn, can be viewed below, with the track listing as follows:
- Norrøn Kraft
- Naglfar
- Alu Alu Laukar
- Varden Brenne
- Malmting
- Balladen Om Bifrost

Drummer Gerhard Storesund adds:
"Nørrøn has the quality to send you on a musical journey where your present dies and all your senses starts to relive the music. Where you are plunged into a life of forgotten wisdom, beliefs and forces. Where all that was lost and taken has been resurrected. Where you stand steadfast on Norse ground, calling for revenge from your heathen heart.
"This is an album that has caused much joy and despair in the creative process. I hope and believe all the blood, sweat and hard work reflect and colour our relentless pursuit of creating something beautiful, original and epic, and at the same time giving you the raw and attacking feeling of the real Viking metal spirit.”
Einherjer disbanded in 2004 after the release of their album Blot through Tabu Recordings. Gone until 2008, when the band announced their return to the live scene, and in 2009 played Wacken, Ragnarock, Kaltenbach and some selected dates on the Paganfest 09 tour.
