HATE ETERNAL - Phoenix Amongst The Ashes

Phoenix Amongst the Ashes is a bludgeoning assault on the senses. Coming as Hate Eternal’s fifth studio offering, this record is death metal battery. Forget melody, forget groove, and forget empathy, as all notion of charity has been battered, pummeled, violated and left defaced.

Truly, this is one of the angriest; hate filled and outstanding death metal albums to grace my iTunes. Erik Rutan, Jade Simonetto and newly recruited bass guitarist J.J Hrubovcak have unleashed their demons, spreading an ashen hue of bitterness and disease in ten destructive tracks.

Solid production ensures every detail and nuance is identifiable. Rutan’s masterful guitar work is unmatched on all tracks, yet ‘Haunting Abound’ is a merciless stand out for me, featuring some amazing blackened riff-work and destructive solos.

Impossibly heavy, listeners are thrown into a hurricane of unrelenting blasts from drummer Jade Simonetto. The changes in time-signatures, and their complex riff structures - which weave into nerve racking harmonies and guitar solos - finally rounded-off with Rutan’s unmistakable, menacing screams and growls, that all hold dominion over this ferocious kingdom of callous hate.

People are ought to piss Rutan off more often if he's going to release good shit like this!

Phoenix Amongst the Ashes is out now through Metal Blade Records.
