NIGHTWISH Studio Update
This is a band that we’ve not spoken of for a while, but as they are currently in the studio, we thought it was time for a short and sweet update.
Finnish symphonic metallers Nightwish are currently working on their seventh studio album, titled Imaginarium. The record is due to be released this spring through Nuclear Blast, and is coupled with a film of the same moniker.
The following video was lensed during the recording sessions of the forthcoming album in Petrax studios, Finland, with mixing engineer Mikko Karmila. In the interview, main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen and bass guitarist Marco Hietala talk about composing, studio work and recording sessions in multiple locations - what works for them.
Imaginarium is a concept album which tells a story of a composer on his deathbed, reminiscing of his youth. "If you had the chance to return to your childhood -- just for a split second -- when witnessing a magic trick, would you forfeit that chance and seek for a rational explanation? Imaginarium is all about such questions."
Imaginarium is the follow-up to the 2007 release Dark Passion Play, which was the first record released without participation of original vocalist Tarja Turunen, who was fired in 2005 and replaced by current front woman, Anette Olzon.
