THE DEFILED '1888'

The Defiled was voted as one of the top 4 new bands to come out of Britain by a Kerrang! Readers Poll in 2009 and have been terrorizing Europe in support of Industrial metal giants Deathstars, Static-X and Lacuna Coil, among others, for the past couple of years. Already with a large following due to singer/guitarist Stitch D's time with alternative/punk rock band AntiProduct, it is no surprise that The Defiled is now one of the UK's premiere metal acts.

With the debut EP '1888', The Defiled take common guidelines of new age metal and mix it with they're own brutal style of vicious melodies and ferocious vocals, the result being an EP of a quality and class that we haven’t witnessed before. '1888' proves that this highly talented quintet is here to stay. Move over Bullet For My Valentine, British metal has a new poster child...introducing The Defiled!

This remarkable debut EP kicks off with an explosion of screaming vocals and heavy blast beats through 'The Resurrectionists'. This track also saw The Defiled make their film debut, with a film clip which was released onto MySpace Video in March 2010. The first track on the album is a bombardment of relentless screaming verses and showcases some well tuned clean vocals throughout the choruses.

Track 2 'The End Of Innocence' begins with a quieter intro before bursting into a very well paced metal track, heavy riffs and throat splitting vocals put singer/guitarist Stitch D into the same league as metal legend and Machine Head front man Rob Flynn.

From the opening beat of the title track '1888', you’re thrown into a whirlwind of energetic thrash metal. This brutal addition to the EP is a credit to The Defiled. To be able to produce a song of such quality on the bands first commercial release is something previously unseen. Again, singer Stitch D produces an epic display of mind blowing screams as well as showcasing his vocal range with a minute long breakdown of clean vocals. The end of this track introduces The Defiled's more industrial metal influence, with keyboardist The AvD emerging from the barrage of guitars with some truly exceptional electronics and keys which bring a whole different feel to the rest of the EP.

'Permanent Reminder' begins with a very industrial metal intro which carries out for the next 4 minutes. Backing vocals by The AvD and an amazing array of phenomenal double kicks by drummer JC Brutal, send this EP, again, into uncharted territory. The second last track shows yet another change in direction from this talented group of musicians and is a great inclusion into a debut release as it shows the range of metal that this band in capable of producing.

'1888' is brought to a violent end with 'Red Tape'. The last track on the EP acts as a combination of previous tracks 'The Resurrectionists' and 'Permanent Reminder'. The fast and heavy melodies provided by bassist Drex Exel and guitarist KK Curse, integrate fluently with the keys implanted by The AvD to create a 5:45 industrial outro of epic proportions.

It is without any doubt that The Defiled are one of the worlds most anticipated up and coming metal acts, and are a welcome addition to the In At The Deep End record label, which also handles bands such as Suicide Silence, The Casino Brawl and Sylosis. The future looks bright for this 5-piece from London.
