Death & Thrash Night at the Lewisham Hotel
Death & Thrash night review at the Lewisham Hotel
Lewisham hotel always puts on good gigs and on September 11th an awesome bill was put on with some great talent from across sydney. Osmium Grid were the first band to play that night in front of a relatively small but eager crowd. This band had a straight up heavy metal sound which was distinctive to that of lamb of god or a band with the new wave of american heavy metal sound. It seemed as though the crowd were unfamiliar with who this band were but they do a have a bright future ahead of them which can be assured.
Corotted unfortunately pulled out at the last minute but were replaced by a band called Holocaust who then pulled out as well and was replaced by suprise act Darker Half. The crowd seemed to enjoy it and they got the best reaction the whole night. being unexpected that the band were playing made the crowd obviously get a lot more excited. They played a fair bit of songs from their latest album as well as a few of their songs from their EP.
Synperium were up next and had an amazing sound. It seems that everytime I see this band live their sound just keeps getting better and they become a more tight outfit. As well as playing songs from their EP sarcoma and thy kingdom come, they seemed to have a bigger setlist with showcasing new muisc from their forthcoming album supposubly due out in December. The crowd got into it and showed some promising reaction to the new music. Their technical death sound doesn't match in my opinion to a lot of bands in the metal scene at the moment and with what the new album is going to be sounding like, we can expect an amazing album to take us into 2010.
Anno Domini were the headline band of the night. They didn't seem to pull a big crowd but with their melodic death metal sound, they always pull off an amazing performance. Kieran, the frontman, was showing great stage presence while interacting with the crowd and balancing off all members of the band. They were also showcasing alot of their new music as well which sounds like they are moving into a more extreme direction.
Overall, the night was great and its good to see such a positive reaction from local metal gigs. Theres alot happening in Sydney at the moment with international gigs, but its alwyas good to see people supporting the local scene in any shape or form.
